Gleditsia triacanthos - Lime Gold
Gleditsia ‘Limegold’ is a stunning, medium-sized deciduous tree, perfect for providing dappled shade and a cooling effect in the landscape. Its graceful, fern-like foliage emerges in a vibrant golden hue during spring and early summer before transitioning to a refreshing lime-gold in the warmer months. As autumn arrives, the leaves turn bright yellow before falling, making it an excellent choice for seasonal interest.
This thornless variety produces small, inconspicuous green raceme flowers in spring, followed by large brown seed pods that often persist into winter, adding to its ornamental appeal. A vigorous grower, ‘Limegold’ thrives as a shade tree in domestic gardens, larger properties, and urban landscapes, including street plantings. It performs best in full sun with moist, deep, fertile soils but is highly adaptable to various soil conditions, including moderately saline soils, coastal locations, and areas with poor drainage. It also exhibits excellent tolerance to air pollution, drought, and occasional flooding.
For optimal growth, water well until established and apply mulch to retain moisture. Annual autumn pruning of long, flexible branches will help develop a strong framework and maintain its elegant form. Gleditsia ‘Limegold’ reaches a mature height of 9 to 12 meters with a width of approximately 6 meters, making it a versatile and resilient choice for a range of landscaping applications.
